1. The Fairmont Washington, D.C.
The Fairmont in DC's West End was designed by architect Vlastimil Koubeck in 1985 and its stunning atrium is relaxing and inspiring at the same time. They also have a special Valentines Day package that lets guests bring their dogs for some pampering.
2. Park Hyatt Washington D.C.
The Park Hyatt uses modern minimalist design to bring a soothing vibe to the corner of a busy street. They too have a Valentine's Package that comes with a bath butler that will draw a rose petal bath with tea lights and bath salts.
3. The Willard Intercontinental
Stay in the place most former presidents have stayed, including the Obamas the night before the inauguration in 2008. It has been a hotel since 1810, but in 1901 the 'new' Willard opened with its distinctive architecture that is recognized as a historic site.
4. Hotel Rouge
A few Kimpton hotels have romance packages this week, but the best one for Valentine's Day is Hotel Rouge. Moody reds decorate every room and low lighting adds to the romance.
5. Four Seasons Hotel Washington DC
The real thing the Four Seasons is known for is its art collection. And the best room in the hotel, which is said to be the largest hotel room in DC, is the Royal Suite. So the white marble bathroom, with sculpted tub, must be the best bathroom in DC.
6. The Ritz-Carlton, Washington D.C.
Not much can top the Ritz-Carlton and DC is lucky enough to have several on both sides of the Potomac. The exterior architecture isn't all that stunning, but the interiors are always beautiful to look at. This exterior, for the one in Pentagon City, is pretty cool on the outside too.
7. The Mayflower Renaissance Washington, DC Hotel
When it opened the Mayflower was said to have the second-most gold leaf in the country (second only to the Library of Congress). Much of that gold leaf remains and their Mayflower Suite has been restored to its original features. Plus, it has an eight person attached dining room.
8. Savoy Suites Hotel
The Savoy is a member of the old guard of luxury hotels but its decor tries for a more modern approach. For Valentine's Day the best way to go is with a skybox suite. Each one comes with a deep-soaking jacuzzi.
