Mapping the Construction Sites in Navy Yard and Waterfront

View as Map

The Navy Yard of 2014 is very different from the Navy Yard of 2007, before the ballpark opened. The Capitol Skyline Hotel is no longer the only place to go for recreational fun and condo and co-op projects have popped up en masse. Yet, the transformation of the Capitol Riverfront is not done and the construction on neighboring Waterfront has just begun. As such, Curbed has decided to round up all of the construction sites in Navy Yard and Southwest D.C. in the handy map below. For the record, projects like Congressional Square, 99M and the Homewood Suites that haven't actually broken ground have been left off this map. This is only a look at current, active construction projects (and one massive demolition site). The more tower cranes, the better, but if you know of a project that we missed, please tell us in the comments.

Hyatt Place

This 214 room hotel, which broke ground late last year, is really starting to take shape. The developers (E Street Development Group) are also planning to build up office space down the street once the hotel has been completed.

500 D Street Office Project

This office building doesn't really have an official name (uh, 500 D Street SW?) but there are some details that have been made public about this spot near L'Enfant Plaza. It's going to be twelve stories high, 471,500 square feet and it'll include a two story atrium and a 16,500 square foot green roof.

The Wharf

This game changer along Maine Street SW will include a hotel, residential projects, restaurants, entertainment venues and the kitchen sink. The entire Waterfront is a construction zone.

Sky House West

The counterpart to the first Sky House building (which opened over the winter) is pretty close to completion, but there's still a lot of dust and telltale orange cones sitting out front.

Hampton Inn & Suites

Traveling Nationals fans, rejoice! Construction started in January on this hotel right across the street from Nationals Park and the 168-room seems to be progressing nicely (even though it's still a ways from being 13 stories high). The adjoining 99M development, however, is still an empty lot and therefore has been left off this map.

Twelve12

The Twelve12 projects are just part of The Yards' sprawling takeover of the Capitol Riverfront. Although the VIDA Fitness partners have started opening their doors, there's still some work to be done on the Southeast corner of 4th & Tingey.

The Lofts at Capitol Quarter

Ground broke in March on this project co-developed by the D.C. Housing Authority that will bring back thirty-nine of the 707 affordable units that the city had previously demolished.

Park Chelsea

This is the luxe residential project that will bring 433 condos to Navy Yard. To differentiate itself from the city's other luxe condos, it'll have a yoga studio, a jacuzzi and a dedicated dog exercise area. Also in a few years, a Whole Foods will be next door.

River Parc

This thirteen-story residential tower is extremely close to completion. Like its neighbor, Park Chelsea, it will have outdoor grilling spaces and puppy-friendly amenities. However, they'll also have their own bocce court.

The Yards

RIP NGA Headquarters and RIP interesting murals. We'll have a fuller look at the demolition at this site coming soon, but know that there is so much rubble in what will soon be yet another outpost of The Yards.
