Beginning Monday, you can watch some tennis from a new angle in the District: on the roof of the Union Market building. Developer Edens is transforming the rooftop into a 700-seat tennis stadium for the Washington Kastles, whose summer season runs from July 15 through the end of the month. Grand Slam champion Venus Williams is set to play at the site July 25.
The tournament, which features several matches, represents the first time the Union Market roof will be used for a public event. Concessions will be supplied by Union Market vendors, and the area will host various Kastles-related events during the season, such as a kids clinic. The stadium will contain general seating, boxes, and premium seating, including VIP tables.

The Kastles have won six World TeamTennis titles since they were founded in 2008. Edens, meanwhile, has plans to make the roof of Union Market a long-term park and events venue.
