Update, November 1:

Officials will establish a pedestrian-only zone near the National Mall for the Washington Nationals championship parade Saturday. The rectangular-shaped zone will be bounded by 15th Street NW to the west, Independence Avenue SW to the south, 3rd Street NW to the east, and E Street NW to the north. Cars, bikes, and scooters will not be allowed in the zone.

Pennsylvania Avenue NW between Constitution Avenue and 3rd Street NW closed to traffic Friday morning for preparations and will remain closed through 7 p.m. Saturday. Additional parking restrictions will go into effect 6:30 p.m. Friday and also run through 7 p.m. Saturday. Certain roadways in the area will close at either 8 p.m. Friday or 9 a.m. Saturday. The parade is set to kick off at 2 p.m. Saturday and proceed for about a mile on Constitution Avenue NW.

Metro will open at 7 a.m. and run extra service throughout the day, thanks to a sponsorship by Xfinity. Trains downtown will arrive every three to four minutes, leaving from end-of-line stations every six to 12 minutes. Metro has cancelled all previously scheduled track work to accommodate the tens of thousands of fans expected to attend the parade. “On Saturday, we want our streets packed with fans and champions, not cars,” Mayor Muriel Bowser says in a statement. Significant crowding is anticipated at the Metro stations close to the parade route.

Yes, it really happened: The Washington Nationals won the World Series last night, marking the first time D.C.’s MLB baseball team has done so in 95 years. And on Saturday, the District will honor their championship victory with a parade just north of the National Mall. Starting at 2 p.m., the parade will go from Constitution Avenue NW at 15th Street NW, proceed east along the avenue, and end on Pennsylvania Avenue NW at 3rd Street NW with a team rally.

That’s according to D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser’s office, which is encouraging Nats fans not to drive to the parade. To receive alerts about the event, people can text “NATS” to 888-777 or visit the District government’s sports landing page. Multiple city agencies are coordinating the parade. The Nats will return from Houston; they beat the Astros in four of seven games.

The parade is sure to attract thousands of people. Watch out for sharks—baby sharks, that is.
