D.C.’s celebrating 2018 Major League Baseball All-Star Game festivities, and that includes some baseball-themed public art. A new mural is now up by Aniekan Udofia (who just painted a massive mural in Ivy City) near Ben’s Chili Bowl at the Lincoln Theatre in honor of two ball players who made an impact on baseball history. Johnson was the only female pitcher in the Negro leagues, and Josh Gibson was one of the most acclaimed home run hitters in the Negro leagues.

Mayor Muriel Bowser tweeted: “Today, we remember the life and legacy of two trailblazing Negro League baseball players, Mamie “Peanut” Johnson and Josh Gibson. Thank you to @MLB, @Nationals, and @benschilibowl for bringing this beautiful mural to life.”
