Take a look at the National Mall’s new memorial to Native American veterans, which will break ground this fall with a slated 2020 completion date. Artist and veteran Harvey Pratt’s design, titled “Warriors Circle of Honor” won a design competition for the project.
Harvey Pratt, who describes himself as an “Investigator, Forensic Artist, Native American artist, Marine Vietnam Veteran and Southern Cheyenne Chief,” wanted to have an interactive element to the structure. There will be stone fountain shaped like a drum, and space for visitors to tie prayer cloths to the structure.
“My whole idea was that it wasn’t a sculptured piece,” Pratt told WAMU. “It was something that people could actually walk into and be a part of.”
