Dupont Circle’s new BID wants to bring the neighborhood back to its heyday

Plans include a new plaza

Mission - Dupont Circle/Facebook

“Dupont Circle looks tired.” That’s how Firehook Bakery’s Pierre Abushacra sums up the neighborhood’s current identity to WAMU — and the reason that Dupont Circle is about to launch its first-ever business improvement district.

The BID will begin collecting fees from local property owners, which will go towards fixing up Dupont Circle’s streetscape. There’s also a huge plan to build a deck-over plaza over the Connecticut Avenue underpass near Dupont Circle and Q Street NW. The hope is to reduce vacancies, add trendy retailers, and draw shoppers and diners back to the once vibrant and quirky neighborhood.
