The farmers markets, CrossFit boxes and yoga studios on seemingly every corner in Arlington have not gone unnoticed. The American College of Sports Medicine just ranked Arlington as the fittest city in America, according to its 2018 American Fitness Index.
The ranking takes into account factors like smoking rate, walkability scores, farmers market per capita, and more. Compared to 99 other communities, the index found that Arlington residents had the lowest smoking rate and highest reports of “very good” or “excellent” health.
But D.C. proper wasn’t far behind Arlington in the index: D.C. came in as the third fittest city in America after Minneapolis. You can see the full rankings here.
And the fittest city in American is...Arlington, Virginia!
