Beware, commuters. A severe thunderstorm with wind gusts of up to 75 mph might possibly hit the Washington area right in the teeth of rush hour. The Washington Post’s Capital Weather Gang projects that the “most likely timing” for storms is 6 to 8 p.m. The weather team thinks this storm could fall under the category of a derecho, which means damaging winds.
Be careful out there on the roads and outside, look for a flashlight, and charge those devices.
Numerous severe thunderstorms will be crossing the Mid Atlantic this afternoon-evening. Wind gusts 65-75 mph possible. Take precautions now for potential wind damage. If you hear thunder, seek safety indoors. pic.twitter.com/4PKi9V08lH
