In January 2012, the Arlington County Board approved the redevelopment of a section of Virginia Square. Originally, the project called for offices, ground-floor retail, and a 12,985-square-foot black box theater. ARLnow reports that these plans have changed with the black box theater expected to be formally removed, adding that the operational and financial costs of the theater would rely on too much tax support.
Planned for the site of the old Arlington Funeral Home at 3901 Fairfax Drive, the development now primarily calls for office space. The building’s height will also be reduced by eight feet, eliminating a mezzanine level. An outdoor terrace at the penthouse is also planned.
The developer behind the project is BDC Crimson LLC.
