A new hotel is planned for Navy Yard by the riverfront, within walking distance to Nationals Park. Thompson Hotel is slated to open in early 2020 with 225 rooms. It will be the first hotel development in The Yards, according to a press release.
Located at the corner of Tingey and 3rd streets SE, this project will feature 38 suites, which will offer views of the Anacostia River and nearby Nationals Park. There will be amenities like a ground-level restaurant, rooftop bar, a fitness center, and 4,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space.
The final product will incorporate industrial patterns and textures found in historic naval structures. The guestrooms will feature copper, metal, and emerald, and ivory tones, while the facade will include dark iron bricks, metal panels, and a dark gray color.
The developers behind the project are San Francisco-based Geolo Capital and Boston-based JW Capital Partners. The architecture firm is Studios Architecture and New York City-based interior design firm Parts and Labor Design. Once Thompson D.C. opens, Union Investment will acquire the hotel from Geolo Capital and JW Capital Partners.
Thompson Hotels was founded in 2001 as an international hospitality company. It is located in New York, Seattle, Nashville, Mexico. It will soon expand into Texas and California.
In a statement, John Pritzker, founding partner and director of Geolo Capital, said, “We couldn’t be more thrilled to bring Thompson Hotels’ brand of luxury lifestyle hotels to The Yards in Washington, D.C. The historic nature of the Navy Yard, combined with Forest City’s vision for and investment in the neighborhood, makes this one of the most dynamic hospitality opportunities in America.”
