New FBI headquarters plan may keep agency at same site

Previous plans were to locate the headquarters in Virginia or Maryland

In July 2017, the FBI headquarters search was canceled after five years of planning, funding, and designing. This Monday is the deadline for the General Services Administration (GSA) to submit a new plan to the Senate’s Committee on Environment and Public Works on what the next steps are for a new headquarters.

Washington Business Journal was the first to report that the GSA is endorsing the current location on Pennsylvania Avenue NW as the preferred site. Before the search was canceled, the former sites being considered were Greenbelt, Maryland, Springfield, Virginia, and Landover, Maryland.

Still, it’s unclear as to whether or not the GSA would prefer redeveloping the existing deteriorated building. It is also still unclear where employees would be housed during the redevelopment.
