The world’s leading car-sharing network, Zipcar, has started a partnership with the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) in order to add 15 Zipcars to eight rail stations. These cars will be found at the following stations:
- Light RailLink: Mount Washington
- Light RailLink: North Avenue
- Metro SubwayLink: Mondawmin
- MARC Train: Dorsey
- MARC Train: Halethorpe
- MARC Train: Laurel
- MARC Train: Odenton
- MARC Train: West Baltimore
In a statement, MDOT MTA Administrator Kevin Quinn said, “Car-sharing expands mobility options for existing transit riders who can’t afford or don’t want the burden of full-time car ownership. This program also will allow new, potential riders to try transit without losing the option to drive when necessary.”
Zipcar reservations include the cost of gas, maintenance, insurance, and 180 miles of driving. Users can make reservations online or through the Zipcar mobile app. Zipcar has operated in the state of Maryland since 2008.
