In Alexandria, plans to replace a hotel with 19 townhouse-style condos

If approved, essentially every inexpensive hotel in the neighborhood will be gone

There are plans to demolish the two-story Best Western Colony Inn at 1101 N. Washington Street in order to replace it with 19 townhouse-style, four-story condominiums.

According to the Washington Business Journal, “If the plan is approved, and [Pennsylvania-based Toll Brothers] follows through, the demolition of the Best Western would indeed bring an end to virtually all inexpensive hotels in Old Town Alexandria.”

Currently, the 1967-built hotel houses 49 rooms. It was originally built as a conference center to support the Olde Colony Motor Lodge, which was later demolished in the early 2000s.

The proposed brick homes will feature synthetic wood enclosed porches, juliet balconies, cast stone lintels, and angled shingled roofs, as reported by Washington Business Journal.
