Behold, the D.C. area’s 5 richest counties

From Loudoun County, Virginia, to Howard County, Maryland

Half of the 10 richest counties in the country are only about an hour away from Washington, D.C., as reported by Forbes. To come up with their list, Forbes analyzed research from the Census Bureau’s Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates for 2015. Washington Business Journal further reported on each county’s population and poverty rate.

Below, see the list of the D.C. area’s richest counties with their ranking in Forbes’ list and their median household income included:

  1. Loudoun County, Virginia (First place) ($125,900)
  2. Falls Church, Virginia (Second place) ($122,092)
  3. Fairfax County, Virginia (Third place) ($112,844)
  4. Howard County, Maryland (Fourth place) ($110,224)
  5. Arlington County, Virginia (Eighth place) ($104,354)
