Downtown Bethesda’s planned 17-story residential complex moves forward

Expect over 400 rentals as well as ground-floor retail

In 2015, developer JBG Cos. shelved plans for a 17-story mixed-use project in Downtown Bethesda, but it looks like those plans are about to begin again. Bethesda Magazine reported that the developer hopes to redevelop the building at 7900 Wisconsin Avenue into a 475-unit apartment complex with 21,600 square feet of ground-floor retail.

There is no set timeline yet for the project, but the county is working on processing an application for a demolition permit for the structure currently on the site. There are also no reports yet on which tenants will fill the retail space, but there were hopes to get a grocery store like a Trader Joe’s.

The Fitness First that is in the building currently at the site will close later this month.
