Capital Bikeshare is booming, and has been for quite a few years now. In order to learn more about how and why D.C. residents, commuters, and other visitors use the ride share service, Motivate accessed data from customer surveys across the system.
In their survey, Motivate reported that more and more people are using bike share systems in general. In 2016, there were over 28 million U.S. bike share trips taken, which is a 25 percent increase year-over-year.
Below, see the local highlights of the report:
- Every Capital Bikeshare member saved an average of $631 per year on personal travel cost
- 65 percent of Capital Bikeshare members reported that this was their primary way to use bike share
- 71 percent of survey respondents said that they used Capital Bikeshare “at least occasionally” to access a Metrobus, Metrorail, or commuter rail
- 18 percent of Capital Bikeshare members used the service six or more times per month
