East Falls Church’s Lee Highway pedestrian bridge, what to expect

Expect the delivery by 2021

There are plans for a bridge in East Falls Church that will be perfect for crossing as a pedestrian or bicyclist.

ARLnow reported that changes to the design of the bridge have included the removal of a dark red trussed roof and the relocation of trail shelters. Still, the lighting for the bridge is up for discussion. ARLnow further reported:

“Currently, the bridge has acorn-style lights in its center that would be maintained by Dominion Virginia Power. [The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT)] and local residents agree the lights could be better, but they are limited to lights in Dominion’s inventory.”

The installation of noise walls is also still up for discussion. There is also interest to install public art nearby.

This bridge is part of the VDOT’s “Transform 66” initiative. Construction is expected to begin mid-2018 with a delivery by 2021.
