In a time when Washington, D.C. is in constant change, there is one organization that vows to honor the projects, organizations, and people who support historic preservation in the District. Since 2003, the D.C. Preservation League has organized the District of Columbia Awards for Excellence in Historic Preservation. The award is co-sponsored by the D.C. Office of Planning and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
The categories of the award include: Stewardship, Volunteerism and Community Involvement, Education, Design and Construction, as well as the State Historic Preservation Officer’s Award, HPRB Chair Awards, and Individual Lifetime Achievement.
This year’s awarded recipients were recently revealed with 11 videos. Below, see the list of winners with links to the respective videos:
- Dr. James M. Goode, recipient of the Individual Lifetime Achievement Award
- The Cosmos Club Warne Ballroom Restoration, recipient of the Stewardship award
- The Potomac Boathouse Restoration, recipient of the Stewardship award
- The Grace Episcopal Church Sandstone Repair and Replacement, recipient of the Stewardship award
- The Yarrow Mamout Archaeology Project, recipient of the Community Involvement award
- The District of Columbia Boundary Stones Project, recipient of the Design and Construction award
- The Bayou Bakery Coffee Bar & Eatery Project, recipient of the Design and Construction award
- The Washington Navy Yard Historic Watch Box Relocation, recipient of the Design and Construction award
- The Hecht Warehouse at Ivy City, recipient of the Design and Construction award
- The Park View Field House, recipient of the HPRB Chair Award
- The Washington Union Station Main Hall Restoration, recipient of the State Historic Preservation Officer’s Award
