This Tuesday, Mayor Muriel Bowser broke ground on Square 769N, a brand new mixed-use affordable housing project expected to deliver by 2018.

According to Hill Rag, the 179-unit apartment development is located at 1100 Second Place SE. 36 of the units will be for households making up to 50 percent of the area median income. Nine of the units will be permanent supportive housing. There will also be 4,000 square feet of commercial retail space.

The developers behind the 10-story residential project are Urban Atlantic LLC and Forest City Residential, Inc., who have partnered with the D.C. Housing Authority.

Hill Rag further reported that $1.85 million of the funds for the $74 million project will come from the Housing Production Trust Fund and federal low-income housing tax credits.
