It’s official. A Wegmans grocery store is on its way to Washington, D.C. at the current Fannie Mae headquarters.

Beneath the structure, a new lower level will be constructed, while a new street will be constructed in order to accommodate a street-level entrance. There will be no dedicated parking spaces, save for the 800 parking spaces planned to be shared on the site. There will also be a 6,000-square-foot standalone restaurant operated above the store.

Washington Business Journal reported that the store will span 80,000 square feet, which is smaller than the typical Wegmans, which typically runs about 150,000 square feet.

Before work can begin on converting the Colonial-style brick building, located at 3900 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Fannie Mae will have to move into their new headquarters at the former Washington Post site on 15th Street NW. This won’t occur until late 2018. Delivery of the Wegmans project is slated for late 2021.
