In Old Town Alexandria, there are plans for a brand new 1.4-acre park, called Fitzgerald Square. The Washington Post reported that the park will replace the Old Dominion Boat Club house, a parking lot and an existing green space between the two properties.
The boat club’s structure is expected to be demolished after November. Once complete, the park will feature bistro tables, benches as well as events like food and craft fairs. There will also be a seasonal ice rink.
In an interview with The Washington Post, Mayor Allison Silberberg said, “I love the fact that we’re creating a connection along the waterfront and a good vista. It’s really important to me that people will be able to sit and look out at those boats. . . . It’s really romantic.”
