Audi of America has purchased the naming rights to D.C. United’s planned stadium in Buzzard Point. With this, the new name for the stadium will be Audi Field.
While the terms of the deal were not disclosed, The Washington Post reported that the agreement is for at least 12 years. Washington Business Journal further reported that naming rights typically bring in several million dollars per year.
Since April of last year, site work has been underway on the stadium. With groundbreaking slated for the first quarter of 2017, the delivery is expected to be in 2018.
Once complete, the 20,000-seat facility will feature 31 luxury suites, 500,000 square feet of mixed-use retail and residential space, and a bike valet.
On Thursday, D.C. United is expected to get its final approval for the site from the D.C. Zoning Commission.
