White House Christmas tree lighting ceremony: Street closures, mapped

Don’t let the traffic ruin your jolly mood

Already, Washington, D.C., is known for having some pretty bad traffic. This Thursday, expect it to be even worse, thanks to the 95th annual National Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony.

According to WTOP, roadblocks are scheduled to begin around 12 p.m. and remain until 8 p.m. Because of this, expect more volume on Independence Avenue NW. With these closures, the 30N, 30S, and 36 Metrobus routes will be detoured.

Closed from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.:

  • 17th Street NW between Pennsylvania and Constitution avenues NW
  • C Street NW between 17th and 18th streets NW
  • D Street NW between 17th and 18th streets NW
  • E Street NW between 17th and 18th streets NW
  • F Street NW between 17th and 18th streets NW
  • G Street NW between 17th and 18th streets NW
  • New York Avenue NW between 17th and 18th streets NW

Closed from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.:

  • Constitution Ave NW between 18th and 14th Streets NW
  • 15th Street NW between H Street NW and Madison Drive NW
  • 17th Street NW between Constitution and Independence avenues SW
  • Pennsylvania Avenue NW between 14th and 15th streets NW
  • E Street NW between 14th and 15th streets NW
  • F Street NW between 14th and 15th streets NW
  • G Street NW between 14th and 15th streets NW
  • New York Avenue NW between 14th and 15th streets NW
