Exactly 22 years ago, Washington, D.C.-based non-profit KaBOOM! built the organization’s very first playground in the District. Soon, on October 18, KaBOOM! will build its 3,000th playground at Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC).

Along with volunteers from THEARC and residents from Ward 8, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and members of the Washington Capitals hockey team are expected to join in the celebration.

According to a press release, over 36,500 children east of the Anacostia River are expected to be able to enjoy the new playground in D.C.

With over 20 years of work, KaBOOM! has impacted over 8 million children across the country.

If any volunteers are interested in signing up to help build the playground, they can sign up on the THEARC website here.
