The Capitol dome’s scaffolding has been removed

The entire project is expected to complete in January

Finally, the scaffolding on the U.S. Capitol has been removed. DCist reported that "there are still some residual materials to be removed, and interior work to be completed." Despite this, the Capitol has entered the project’s "completion phase" with a finish by the inauguration in January.

According to the Architect of the Capitol website, the Capitol dome was under restoration due to exposure to weather that can cause the exterior cast iron to rust. The last significant exterior renovation was around 1960. The cost of the restoration is $59.55 million, which includes contingency costs and project support.
