This Wednesday, the last beam was placed on the 90-foot-high West End Fire Station Project at 23rd and M streets NW. While there is still a ways to go for Eastbanc's project to complete, this topping out is another step in the completion of a $50 million project that was first pitched in 2007.
According to a press release, the project will feature a 15,500-square-foot fire station as well as a 54,300-square-foot building with six market-rate units and 55 affordable units for those making 60 percent of the area median income. There will be a one-level garage with 24 parking spaces. A state-of-the-art squash facility, called "Squash on Fire," will also be built with eight courts and a full-service restaurant.
Eastbanc is also constructing the 21,000-square-foot West End Library. The press release states that the building will include 7,300 square feet of retail topped by 71 condos and 93 apartments.
