Dupont Circle Restaurant May Be Popped Up, Converted into Apartments

No word yet on whether or not Marrakech Restaurant will remain

Washington, D.C. might have one fewer Moroccan venue due to plans to convert a Dupont Circle restaurant at 2147-2149 P Street NW into an apartment building with a three-floor addition.

According to Board of Zoning Adjustment documents, the developer hopes to renovate and convert the upper floors of the commercial building into a nine-unit apartment building. All of the units will have four bedrooms and four bathrooms, save for two which will have two bedrooms and one bathroom. There will also be a patio on the fourth floor and a green roof. The plans allow the ground floor to house a restaurant.

The Moroccan restaurant currently on the site is called Marrakech Restaurant, but was previously known as La Kazbah and before that Marrakesh. Along with Moroccan cuisine, the venue also hosts belly dancing performances. On Yelp, the restaurant has 87 reviews with an average rating of three stars out of five.

There are no reports yet on whether or not Marrakech Restaurant will remain on the site once the construction is complete.
