14th Street Medical Center to Be Redeveloped for Residential, Retail

Also, expect below-grade parking and office space

Only a few blocks from the U Street Metro station, there are plans to redevelop the Elizabeth Taylor Medical Center site with retail, offices, and residential units.

Whitman-Walker Health and joint-venture partner Fivesquares Development recently submitted their materials to the ANC 2F Community Development Committee for a presentation on the project on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Washington Plaza Hotel. In their materials, there is new information on the plans to redevelop the site at 1701 14th Street NW along with a rendering done by Selldorf Architects.

The project will provide for approximately 155,000 gross square feet of mixed used development with below-grade parking. On the ground floor, there will be retail and a "community space." On the second and third floors, there will be program/commercial office space. On the fourth, fifth, and sixth floors, there will be around 80 to 90 residential units. 30,000 square feet of the space will be occupied by Whitman-Walker Health. The number of parking spaces is still being determined.

In late May, the developers will present to the Historic Preservation Review Board.
