Own Duke Ellington's Columbia Heights Townhome for $499K

Great history, but in need of some TLC

According to a plaque on this Columbia Heights property, jazz legend Edward "Duke" Ellington lived at the residence from 1919 to 1922. PoPville first reported on the listing with many commenters noting that there is little chance that the abode will actually sell for the asking $499,000. One commenter named transplanted said that teardowns in the area often ask $200,000 above that price.

The three-bedroom, two-bathroom abode is definitely in need of some TLC. The wall-to-wall carpeting looks rather shabby, there are wires hanging out of the walls, and a paint job is in order. The kitchen is also fairly narrow and without a dishwasher. PoPville commenter JS noted that there are new joists in the basement, so some structural work has been done to the listing.

This is one of five other houses in Washington, D.C. that Ellington lived in.
