There are plans to construct more senior housing and a childcare center in Silver Spring on the former site of the Silver Spring library. Bethesda Magazine reported that Montgomery County sent out a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the 2.3-acre property, located at 8901 Colesville Road.
The RFP indicates that 30 percent of the units in the senior housing must be designated for households at or below 60 percent of the area median income. Green spaces must also be incorporated into the design.
Bethesda Magazine further reported that the site is currently zoned for single-family detached residential homes, but that there is no limit set in the RFP on the size of the project. If the chosen developer plans on building a multi-family residential development, they will be in charge of acquiring zoning relief.
