Near Wiehle-Reston East, plans for 1.6M SF mixed-use project

Expect new residential, retail, and office space for the area

Over 17 acres of land will be redeveloped for a massive mixed-use project, headed by JBG/1831 Wiehle LLC, EYA, and The Chevy Chase Land Company. RestonNow reported that the entire project will feature 1.2 million square feet of residential space, 230,000 square feet of office space, and 250,000 square feet of retail.

RestonNow further reported that the six parcels of land, which currently house office buildings and parking lots, will eventually feature a multi-family residential development for independent senior living, two five-story multi-family buildings, and an 11-story office building. The project will also include a 200-unit multi-family development, 60 traditional townhomes, five parks, retail stores topped by three-story townhomes, and an extension to Reston Station Boulevard that will include retail. Underground parking will also be constructed.

The developers have not yet looked at the traffic impact of the development. Fairfax County has accepted the application. County planning staff, the planning commission, and the Board of Supervisors still need to review the plans. There will also be visits to the Reston Planning and Zoning and the Reston Association Design Review Board.
