The H Street Streetcar is Expected to Finally Open Next Month

New, 6 comments

After more than five years of planning and a seemingly endless amount of missed deadlines, the planned 2.2-mile streetcar line from H Street NE to Benning Road NE might finally open next month. WAMU reported that project leaders at the District Department of Transportation hope to begin streetcar service on February 20. Once it opens, expect the streetcar service to be free to all riders with arrivals at each stop every 15 minutes. No service will occur on Sundays. WAMU further reported that the grand opening date still needs final approval from the D.C. Fire & EMS. The project was first proposed in 2003 in a draft of the Strategic Development Plan. The cost totals to $160 million. For all information on the streetcar's planning process and errors, be sure to check this article out.
