130-Unit Mixed-Use Development Planned for Anacostia

This week, a new proposal for an Anacostia development will go before the Historic Preservation Review Board with plans for a 130-unit mixed-use development, called Reunion Square. UrbanTurf reported that the project will combine eight lots along Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE with most of the existing properties along the 2001-2027 block retained. At 2007 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE and at 2021 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE, a one-story accessory addition and a print shop addition will be demolished, respectively. The Anacostia Playhouse at 2020 Shannon Place SE (previously known as H Street Playhouse when it was located at H Street NE) will also be razed and rebuilt as part of the new development. UrbanTurf further reported that the main residential building at Reunion Square will be six stories high, in the shape of the letter H, and will house 124 apartments, ranging from studios to one- and two-bedroom units. There are also plans for live-work spaces for artists and six townhomes. The housing will include both market-rate and affordable units.
