In late 2014, Chevy Chase-based developer The JBG Companies completed construction on their first Potomac Yard apartment building with plans to open up a brand new apartment building just next door less than a year later. Now, the developer's second Potomac Yard project has opened its doors as Notch8 with 253 units, 12 of which are affordable. The development features very urban design with stone walls, timber beams, and train imagery throughout. The train imagery is meant to juxtapose Potomac Yard's history as a rail yard as well as the Notch8 name, itself, which is a reference to a train going full throttle.
Since opening this past August, the apartment building has leased 25 percent of its units, ranging in price from around $1,500 to $3,000 per month. For each apartment, residents can choose between a dark or a light color palette. Each unit offers Nest thermostats, movable islands, walk-in closets, and pre-installed, wall-mounted 55-inch televisions. Other highlights include quartz countertops, plank flooring, and a glass tile backsplash in the kitchen. Every unit is pet-friendly, and there is no weight limit. Some units also feature balconies. On the ground floor of the six-level development, there is a 60,000-square-foot Giant with a Target only a block or two away. The nearest Metro station is roughly one-and-a-half miles away.
The development also features a lounge-like lobby with a fireplace and free WiFi, a media room with an Xbox One and a PS4, and an e-lounge. The fitness center also offers a-la-carte trainers and on-demand instructional work out videos. Beside the development's outdoor pool, there is an indoor/outdoor bar area as well as dedicated barbecue areas, hammocks, and a fire pit. Other need-to-know amenities in Notch8 include Package Concierge digital lockers, a three-level garage, and electric car charging stations.
The development was designed by RD Jones & Associates, the same architects who designed Union Wharf, Trilogy at NoMa, and Sky House. Take a closer look at the ins and outs of Notch8 with the below photo gallery.
