New 'Minimalist' Music Venue to Open on K Street NW

On August 12, a brand new music venue will open up in Washington, D.C. after months of renovations. Founded by Echostage owner Antonis Karagounis, the new venue, titled Soundcheck, will take the place of the former dance club, Lotus, at 1420 K Street NW. Reported first by The Washington Post, the space will be "minimalist" with LED walls, video projectors, light fixtures with lasers, and a pair of giant disco balls. Karagounis told The Washington Post that he hopes to give the space an old-school disco feel from the 1980s or 1990s. Reinforced cork flooring will be installed along with honeycombed acoustic panels on the walls and ceiling. The space is big enough to only fit around 300 customers, so expect the venue to be fairly intimate. The calendar is expected to include electronic dance music on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, latin and international music on Fridays, and hip-hop on Saturdays. Check out the full calendar here.
