Nationals Park Architects Hired to Design D.C. United Stadium

One of the nation's most well-known sports facility designers has signed on the create the newest D.C. United stadium in Buzzard Point. The Kansas City-based architecture firm, Populous, is most known for designing Nationals Park, Camden Yards, and Georgetown University's basketball training center. Populous previously worked with D.C. United by producing renderings for the Buzzard Point stadium for use in marketing materials, according to The Washington Post. The soccer stadium will have a capacity between 20,000 and 25,000 people with a delivery by March 2018. Washington, D.C. has agreed to spend a total $150 million on the project. To decide on the design of the stadium, D.C. United sent a lengthy survey to local corporations ad businesses, asking about the importance of parking, in-stadium restaurants, child care facilities, and more. According to The Washington Post, Populous Senior Principal Joe Spear said that the D.C. United stadium design will have it connected to the neighborhood around it.
