In June 2013, Frager's Hardware in the 1100 block of Pennsylvania Avenue SE was destroyed by a fire. There are plans to not only reconstruct the store, but add condos or apartments above the development as well as some minor additional retail. The Washington Business Journal reported that the deal has not been finalized, but that the parties are close to completing it. Frager's is partnering up with the D.C.-based Perseus Realty LLC to be able to afford to rebuild the site. Because the property is located within the Capitol Hill Historic District, the store's facade is expected to be preserved.
