Sound the panda alarms! It looks like one of the National Zoo's pandas, Mei Xiang, is not only pregnant, but due to give birth as early as next week. Smithsonian scientists artificially inseminated the panda April of this year using sperm from two resident pandas. According to the National Zoo's press release, the baby panda is expected to be "genetically valuable" due to its genetic diversity. If you're interested in giving the panda mama a visit before the pregnancy, it looks like your chance is up for now. The portion of the panda habitat with Mei Xiang is closed off. For now, we'll just get ready by doing some shopping. The item of choice: a crib. If this new member of the family is as "valuable" as the National Zoo claims, then this baby panda should only get the best of the best cribs available. Below, you'll find eight cribs that are so cute, you could just pinch their cheeks. To help the Smithsonian scientists pick which of the cribs would suit the new baby panda the most, be sure to vote in our poll at the end of this article.
