Pod Hotel, Chinatown's First Micro-Hotel, Breaks Ground

In what is described as "a new generation of hotels," Chinatown's first micro-hotel, The Pod Hotel, broke ground on Tuesday, June 9. Modus Hotel Chairman Conrad Cafritz and President and CEO Aaron Katz hosted the groundbreaking ceremony at 10 a.m. DMPED Director of Real Estate Sarosh Olpadwala spoke at the event for Mayor Muriel Bowser who couldn't attend due to a conflicting event. Cafritz described the 245-room hotel as perfect for Millennials due to its "value pricing" and two-level restaurant on the ground floor. He stated that the pricing of the hotel will be 75 percent of "normal pricing" for a hotel. The development will feature barn doors, rain showerheads, and high finishes. Located at 7th and H streets NW, the development is a half block away from the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro. The 11-story development costs $60 million and is a joint venture between Monument Realty and Modus Hotels. Delivery is expected by August or September 2016.
