Plans for a Wal-Mart at the Skyland Town Center development have hit a snag. According to a 1997 covenant, supermarkets and pharmacies are prohibited from being within close proximity to a Safeway located at 2845 Alabama Avenue SE. According to the Washington Business Journal, a Safeway spokesman doesn't see any issue with the Wal-Mart, but the D.C. Council doesn't want to have to face the possibility of tearing down the development once its built. The Skyland Town Center development is located at the intersection of Good Hope Road SE, Naylor Road SE, and Alabama Avenue SE. [WBJ]
