On the 50th Anniversary of the U.S. Housing and Urban Development Department, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro toured the Shaw neighborhood to point out new affordable housing projects to the media. While Bowser emphasized the success of these projects protecting the affordability of the neighborhood, Washington Post reporter Perry Stein argues that Shaw will need more affordable housing units to come quickly to save the gentrifying neighborhood.
