Following the ranks of James "The Rent is Too Damn High" McMillan III and "Andre the Giant Has a Posse," D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser may have found her new meme: "CONDOS." According to the New Columbia Heights blog, the sticker (shown above) is the work of local punk band Jack on Fire, whose politically-charged songs focus on gentrification occurring in the District. As reported by the Washington City Paper, the band created the stickers in response to Bowser canceling the plans for the Franklin School to become an art museum, called the Institute for Contemporary Expression. The school, itself, dates back to 1869 and has been used as a school, a homeless shelter, the headquarters to the D.C. Public School administration, and was the site of Alexander Graham Bell's photophone tests. As a National Historic Landmark, it's falling apart from the inside out and has been vacant since 2008. You can find the stickers around the property, located at 925 13th Street NW. To own your own Muriel Bowser CONDO sticker, you can buy one for $1 on the Jack on Fire's website.
