3.7 miles of Rock Creek Park's trails will begin reconstruction this fall with an estimated date of completion by 2017. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) will begin rebuilding the Rock Creek Park trail along Beach Drive with the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) finishing the trail work from 2016 to 2017.
The trail rehabilitation will stem from P Street NW to Broad Branch Road with two miles of trails built from the Rock Creek Park Trail to Broad Branch Road. The Washington Area Bicyclist Association reported that the trail surface will be completely repaved. The road within the National Zoo tunnel will also be modified to accommodate a narrow trail, and a new trail bridge will be constructed nearby.
While construction is underway, Beach Drive and the Rock Creek Park Trail will be closed.
