New, 1 comment

The future of the Union Station's 2nd Century is now in the hands of Beyer Blinder Belle Architects & Planners LLP and Grimshaw Architects. The Union Station Redevelopment Corporation, Amtrak, and Akridge chose the development team through a comprehensive bidding process that began in October 3, 2014. The team will now be in charge of creating what is described as a "world-class transportation hub" by Bob LaCroix, Amtrak Deputy Chief of Northeast Corridor Infrastructure and Investment Development. The $10 billion vision for Union Market includes building four new passenger concourses, improving the existing main concourse adjacent to the station, widening rail platforms, and adding better pedestrian connections to surrounding neighborhoods.

According to the Union Station website, the project will total to over 3 million-square-feet of new mixed-use development. Moving forward, Beyer Blinder Belle Architects & Planners LLP and Grimshaw Architects will be in charge of comprehensive planning, public engagement, and environmental assessment as well as conceptual design services. Beyer Blinder Belle Architects & Planners LLP is an architecture firm known for desining, planning, and renovating New York's Grand Central Station. Grimshaw Architects specializes in train station designs.
