For the next two years, Mayor Muriel Bowser plans on building four 50-unit homeless shelters to be able to eventually close down the D.C. General homeless shelter. The project totals $40 million. Bowser hopes to increase the District's sales tax from 5.75 percent to 6 percent in order to raise the funds. [HN]
