Some Hope to Begin 'White Flint 2' This Month to Meet Deadline

Plans for the White Flint 2 Sector Plan will resume in June 2015, but many are hoping to speed up the process. According to Bethesda Now, County Council members told the Planning Department Director Gwen Wright on Tuesday that they would like to start this month to be able to complete the project by March 2016. According to Wright, though, this deadline is not only "overly ambitious," it's also complicated. What really complicates the project is that the process will involve traffic studies, committee meetings, and Planning Board hearings, as reported by Bethesda Now. Regardless, Councilmember Nancy Floreen requested that plans for White Flint 2 become a top priority with the planned study of naturally occurring affordable housing sped up. The White Flint 2 Sector Plan covers roughly 290 acres around Rockville Pike and plans to transform the area into an urban boulevard with new mixed-use developments.
