An Illustrated History of the White House's Interior Design

With every new President, you can expect changes in policies, laws, and even decor. Every President is allowed their own renovation budget of $100,000 so that they can make their mark on the interior design inside the White House. With this, the Oval Office has experienced numerous face lifts over the years from its wall-to-wall carpeting to its desks. Sometimes, Presidents like to think a little bigger with installations like a bowling alley beneath a WWII bomb shelter or a basketball court on the South Lawn. The Manchester-based website Rug Seller created a timeline of the renovations done to the White House as well as a list of any and all "historical treasures" inside, such as President Barack Obama's Resolute Desk. To see how the White House has changed over the centuries, find the full infographic below.
