'We Are Afraid'

Congress Heights Metro station is known by residents as a "free station," meaning that you don't have to pay the fares. While it is a requirement to pay the fares at the station, station managers and bus drivers feel like they have no enforcement power over residents who disagree. Because of this and the increase in assaults by belligerent riders, the Metro is placing more transit police officers throughout the system. [WAMU]
