The map was created by radio station WNYC with Census data. To see how your ZIP code compares to others near and far from you, scroll your cursor over different areas of the map, and it'll show the average commute time in each area. The shades on the map also represent longer or shorter times with a darker shade representing a longer commute and a lighter color representing a shorter commute. While searching through each ZIP code on the map, it's apparent that Washington, D.C. is pretty spot on with the national average of 25.4 minutes. With a range of almost 1 minute to over 40, some of the longest commutes are located in Anacostia. Alexandria, and Takoma Park, while the shortest are in Arlington, Brentwood, and Downtown D.C.
