The map was created by radio station WNYC with Census data. The shades on the map also represent longer or shorter times with a darker shade representing a longer commute and a lighter color representing a shorter commute. While searching through each ZIP code on the map, it's apparent that Washington, D.C. is pretty spot on with the national average of 25.4 minutes. With a range of almost 1 minute to over 40, some of the longest commutes are located in Anacostia. Alexandria, and Takoma Park, while the shortest are in Arlington, Brentwood, and Downtown D.C.
